A circular walk around Chaddleworth, one short rise, mainly flat, 2 stiles, one is a bit high, through fields and lanes with lovely views.

This is a circular walk from the village of Bagnor taking us through woodland and paths in Snelsmore Common and around the ruins of the medieval 14th century Donnington Castle. There are no stiles but there are a few inclines and one descent. Could be muddy. Walking poles recommended.

SHORT WALK Thursday 26 September 2024
Start: 10.15am Distance 4 miles
Meet at 10.15am in the National Trust Visitors Car Park at Buscot Village, Faringdon, SN7 8DA for a 4 mile circular walk through fields, along the Thames Path and back to Buscot Wharf. The walk is flat and there are no stiles. There are historical features on route and lots of wildlife to see.
Car share if possible. NT members can park for free. £4.00 car parking charge for non-members. The journey by car takes approximately 45 minutes.
Refreshments/lunch are available at the Buscot Tea rooms.
There is also the opportunity in the afternoon to visit Coleshill Estate that has a rural craft centre, a bookshop and tearooms. Approximately 2 miles away.
Other suggestions would be to visit to Buscot House and Park to enjoy the gardens and see the Faringdon Collection. Or visit Kelmscott Manor a former home of William Morris and now owned and managed by The Society of Antiquaries of London.
Afternoon visits to be arranged by members themselves.

The longer walk has a stile and uphill parts to the top of the ridge on the return section the descent is steep and walking poles are required
there is also a shorter route with out the hills 2/2.5 miles 1.5hrs
The shorter walk follows the same route for the first part of the walk but there are no stiles or big hills and also finishes on the same route. ( Only available if someone will lead this)

PLEASE LET JOHN KNOW IF YOU ARE STAYING FOR LUNCH. The walks have no stiles and all being well we should see bluebells in the woods. The pub has a decent size car park but only to be used by walkers using the pub after the walk. There is limited street parking in the village as the roads are narrow, car share if possible.
Several inclines and declines some of the tracks have very loose flints,
Length is just over 5 Miles the walk should take around 2.5/2.45hrs,

It's a gentle uphill walk by Shawgrove Copse, returning via Hatchet Lane and the Kennet and Avon towpath. There are no stiles but there will probably be mud and puddles - I'll be wearing my wellies and taking my walking pole.

The starting point and optional lunch will be at the Three Tuns in Great Bedwyn, SN8 3NU. The car park (for those having lunch) is small but there's street parking on Forest Hill further up from the pub.

The walk is a figure of eight and will take us up over the Common, then along the canal path to the High Street, before going on to Freeman's Marsh and returning to Hungerford via the canal path for an optional lunch at the Three Swans. The High Street is a bit more than half way, so people not wanting to go on to the Marsh could stop then.
There are no stiles, but be aware that the cows are out on the common. The Marsh can be muddy depending on the weather. Please let me know beforehand if you will be stopping for lunch."

The walk is through woodland and open fields with good views of the village of Ramsbury passing a W.W 2 air raid shelter and the memorial for the U.S 101 Airbourne division then back through the village and back to the start.

We start at Cobbs Farm for the Bluebell walk we will walk along the edge of the marsh then cross back across the A4 walking up to the Brick kiln cottage then onto the Littlecote road then follow path up to Cakewood and hopefully we will see a carpet of bluebells and back to Cobbs ( could be muddy in places also slippery)
There are 2 uphill sections and 1 downhill section which could be slippery no styles.

Level walk for the most part with some undulations taking us via the Mill Bridge at Great Bedwyn onto the Wilton Brail to The Swan at Wilton, where it is possible to get lunch and a drink. The walk returns by the side of the feeder lake to Crofton.
The Crofton Beam Engine cafe is open for coffee at 10:30 am for anyone who is interested.

We will walk along Cox's Lane, crossing the A338 at the bridge over the River Shalbourne where we head for Polesdon, Bagshot, Lower Slope Farm and back across the A338 to Prosperous returning to Shalbourne via Ham. A flat walk - maybe muddy. Mixture of woodland and open country. Take a drink and a snack. Look out for deer !

Walk to The Swan at Wilton via Gt Bedwyn Brail and Wilton Windmill. Take a break at the pub for a drink and/or a lite lunch and walk back to Gt Bedwyn via Crofton. Plenty of scope to adjust the walk , longer or shorter as befits the group on the day. Trains back to Hungerford at 1.35, 2.39, 3.40 and 4.44.

Across fields, woods and meadows to Standen House and then via North Standen to Cobbs for coffee or lunch returning via Freemans Marsh and Marsh Lane. Mostly level, about 5 miles taking 2.5 hours including 30 mins for coffee at Cobbs. Shorts not advised because of nettles and brambles.
